BMO Field is a multi-purpose stadium located at Exhibition Place in Toronto, Canada. It opened in 2007 and serves as the home of Toronto FC in Major League Soccer (MLS) and the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League (CFL). Built to replace the aging Exhibition Stadium, BMO Field was Canada’s first soccer-specific stadium.
Originally, the stadium had a seating capacity of 20,000, but expansions have increased it to over 30,000 for soccer matches and up to 40,000 for special events. BMO Field has hosted major tournaments, including the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2007, the 2016 MLS Cup Final, and international matches for the Canadian men’s and women’s national teams.
The stadium originally had artificial turf but switched to a natural grass surface in 2010 after player concerns. A major renovation in 2016 added a canopy to shield fans from the weather and improved seating options.
BMO Field is also a popular venue for concerts and large-scale events. It will be one of the host venues for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, further cementing its importance in Canadian sports. With its lakeside location and passionate fans, BMO Field is a top sports destination in Toronto.
